These tins though, were very special because when I'm in the jungle I won't always be able to have a fire to cook my food on - and these tins get hot all by themselves, so all I would have to do is pull the little label off and the tin would heat up all by itself! I'm sure you can still buy them today, but you'll have to ask a grown-up to be sure. When I arrived at the docks I asked the sailors if they knew where the ship for Africa was and they pointed out just the biggest ship you'd ever seen! It was white and blue and as long as a football pitch, with three big red funnels puffing smoke out. "Toot, Toot" went the ships whistle as if to say "hurry up everyone, I want to get started"
There were boxes piled everywhere and people shouting and rushing about, suitcases, boxes of fruit and baskets of bread, all waiting to be carried onto the ship. It was a marvellous sight to see, all the ships flags fluttering in the breeze and the soldiers' band playing a jolly tune. Oh, how exciting it all was!
all the ships flags fluttering in the breeze At last everything was on board and the ship set sail, very slowly at first, with all the people waiving and cheering and shouting "goodbye, goodbye" to the friends they were leaving behind.
When we were out at sea the Captain of the ship gave the order "full speed ahead" and the ship went at top speed, which was jolly exciting. The Captain knew I was in a hurry and was doing his best to get me there as quickly as possible.
