Chapter 1 - The Journey

A long time ago when the world was square and ice cream was a penny a lick, I set off on a journey to deepest darkest Africa, on the other side of the big ocean.

I was a famous explorer and was asked to go to Africa by the King to help find diamonds for his new jewels using my special explorer maps and clothes. I sent a letter to the King to say I would be jolly pleased to go and would leave straight away.

On the way I called at the explorers' shop and ordered all the special equipment needed, such as buckets and spades, so I could dig for diamonds and any other treasures I might find, and a compass to help find my way through the jungle in case we got lost. The shop packed up all my equipment in great big boxes and sent them on to the docks where I would board the ship for Africa. In the boxes they had also packed enough food for the 6 months I would be away. Especially some of those very special tins of beans with the sausages in, I'm sure you know the ones I mean!
